The 2014 Avon Middle School State Track team is this spring’s State Champ.
The girl’s team finished first, scoring 124 points for the best finish in Avon Middle School history.
Twelve seventh and eighth grade girls participated. Not only were school records set, the Eagles rewrote some state meet records as well.
Melia Dilik won the pole vault, setting a new state record (9 feet 3 inches). In the 4×800, Julia Frombach, Evelyn Pelphrey, Shanna Koehler and Morgan Ferguson broke the state and school records, taking third place.
Kamyrn Sharer broke the school record in the 100 hurdles and took second place in the meet (15:88 at prelims and 16:02 at the finals). She won the 200 hurdles (29.5). In the 200, Sharer set a new school record at the finals, finishing seventh (26.78).
In the 3200, Julia Frombach was second (school record 12:05.1) and Shanna Koehler fourth (12:53:08).
The 4×400 team included Ashley Svec, Evelyn Pelphrey, Caroline Moller and Morgan Ferguson. They set a school record in finishing second (4:19:61).
Juliann Walker set a school record in the shot, taking seventh at the meet (37-8).
“I am so happy for the kids. The team did extremely well,” said coach Ben Cable. “Not only were we happy with the outcome, we were happy with how well everyone ran.”
The team offered thanks to all their parents and the athletic department for transportation to the meet in Columbus.
