The Westlake Board of Education is moving forward with appointing Geoff Palmer, former superintendent of the West Geauga School District, as interim superintendent for the 2014-2015 school year.
Palmer has 11 years experience as a superintendent and has demonstrated success in identified areas of focus for the Westlake Schools, including fiscal management, labor negotiations, communications, and capital and strategic planning.
“Mr. Palmer presented the Board with a comprehensive Interim Superintendent Transition Plan,” said Board of Education President Carol Winter. “We are confident that he will own the position as if it were permanent and will have a positive impact on the Westlake City Schools.”
Palmer previously served as superintendent for Hopewell-Loudon Schools and was an administrator with Van Buren Schools before his tenure in West Geauga. He earned his graduate degree in education from Bowling Green State University and certificates in superintendency and educational system administration from the University of Findlay.
The Board intends to vote on Palmer’s hiring at the July 14 Board of Education meeting. He will fill the interim role for the 2014-2015 school year. As indicated, the Board will revisit the process of naming a permanent superintendent in late 2014/early 2015.
