Western Reserve Re-Enactors Join LBMS Civil War Encampment

Lee Burneson Middle School social studies teachers are partnering with the Western Reserve Historical Society and Hale Farm & Village for this year’s LBMS Civil War Encampment.

Hale Farm is providing professional re-enactors to portray President Lincoln (Westlake resident Mel Maurer), an abolitionist, a Union soldier and two women doing an outdoor camp cooking demonstration at the Civil War Encampment on Wednesday, May 20, 5:30 to 10 p.m. The evening will conclude with a concert of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and the distribution of a student-created Civil War newspaper, The Erie Times.

The Encampment precedes the Blue & Grey Cotillion (formerly the Civil War Ball) on Friday, May 22, 6 to 9 p.m., at LBMS. The events are the culmination of the eighth-grade unit on the Civil War and are sponsored by the LBMS PTA.
