The Cleveland Allergy and Asthma Center is a state-of-the-art health center that offers compassionate care for asthma and allergy patients in a sympathetic and caring environment.

Children and adults with asthma, nasal and sinus problems, or eczema and hives receive state-of-the-art care. Specific interest in chronic coughs is a specialty of the Center.

“Many people suffer from exercise-induced asthma,” says Ronald A. Strauss, MD. Symptoms include: a hacking cough, wheezing, and/or chest tightness, which occurs within 3-8 minutes of starting exercise or just after stopping. With proper precautions and pre-treatments, most adults and children with asthma are able to exercise regularly and safely.

Dr. Strauss has maintained a special focus on asthmatics and sports throughout his 30-plus year practice. He has seen sedentary children blossom into good athletes once they realized their problem was asthma.

“What’s really exciting for me is to make a diagnosis of asthma, then see the patient using the correct medication to participate and at times excel in sports,” says Dr. Strauss.

Dr. Strauss received his MD from Downstate Medical Center, New York, and completed his internship at Cleveland’s MetroHealth Medical Center and his residency at MetroHealth Medical Center and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Additional training was at National Jewish Health, the leading respiratory hospital in the USA.

Dr. Strauss is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University Medical School, as well as a Diplomate of The American Board of Pediatrics and The American Board of Allergy and Immunology — a conjoint board of The American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Pediatrics.

He treats infants, children, and adults with asthma, bronchitis, nasal problems, allergies, sinus problems, hives, recurrent infections, and allergic reactions to insect bites. He has admitting privileges at Fairview Hospital, Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, and University Hospitals of Cleveland.

Dr. Strauss also lives up to his name in a musical way! He is a devoted amateur violinist and President of the Board of the chamber orchestra CityMusic Cleveland. He lives in Cleveland Heights with his wife Eugenia. They are the parents of three daughters and the doting grandparents of six.
