Bay Village Police report that a resident appears to have faked the theft of a rental car after fleeing a crash with the vehicle.

While getting the victim’s information, and gathering information for the report, it was learned the 26 yoa victim had an active warrant with Rocky River PD.  The warrant was confirmed, and he was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant.  He was transported to RRPD.  As part of the investigation, BVPD contacted the rental company and got the vehicle description and license plate.  Upon running the license plate, it was discovered the vehicle had been towed in Lakewood the night before after a hit skip accident in which the driver fled the scene of foot (witnesses gave the same description as the alleged victim who was in custody).  A BVPD officer went to RRPD and questioned the male about the incident.  He initially denied he was involved in a crash, but came forward later and admitted that he was involved in an accident in Lakewood and fled the scene, and that his car had not been stolen.  He was charged with Filing a False Police Report and will face charges at RRMC, in addition to charges in Lakewood.
