Bay Village Police report that a resident appears to have faked the theft of a rental car after fleeing a crash with the vehicle.
A Bexley Drive resident had called Bay Village Police to report his vehicle had been stolen sometime overnight on July 25 at 7:30 a.m. The car was a rental, report Police, and the resident had very little information on the vehicle.

Upon running the license plate, it was discovered the vehicle had been towed in Lakewood the night before after a hit skip accident in which the driver fled the scene of foot (witnesses gave the same description as the alleged victim who was in custody). A BVPD officer went to RRPD and questioned the male about the incident. He initially denied he was involved in a crash, but came forward later and admitted that he was involved in an accident in Lakewood and fled the scene, and that his car had not been stolen. He was charged with Filing a False Police Report and will face charges at RRMC, in addition to charges in Lakewood.
