Quick change artists struck at Marc’s in Westlake, bamboozling a clerk out of $1100 after requesting confusing amounts of change in a $7.33 purchase.
The action took place on Feb. 25 at 8:45 p.m.. The couple depicted in CCTV stills are seen to make a $7.33 purchase with a $100 bill at the Marc’s on Detroit Rd. They then confuse the 18 year old clerk into giving them a series of combinations of bills in change, so that in the end, the store is out $1100.00.
Moral of the story: When someone makes a small purchase with a large denomination bill, then starts asking for all sorts of various combinations of currency in change,
SLAM THE REGISTER SHUT AND CALL YOUR MANAGER!
This is a classic example of a quick-change artist at work. Suspects in these crimes look for youthful clerks who they perceive will be hesitant to question the “customer’s” behavior.
