Sponsored by Mercy Health, the Eagle Run has raised thousands of dollars for the Avon School Educational Endowment Fund, the Avon French Creek YMCA and Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services (CRS), and other local charities.
Every child in the school district benefits from the Eagle Run proceeds as grant monies are awarded to teachers for a variety of classroom activities. The primary goal of the Endowment Fund grants is to encourage teachers to encourage students to excel academically or artistically, or to challenge students to approach life in a more fair or healthy manner. From sponsoring the Robotics teams at the high school and middle school, to providing for the Great Lakes Theater coming to Avon for the “Shakespeare for High School Residency” Project, to bringing the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) to Avon elementary students for the “Soaring through Science” program, the Endowment Fund contributes to a well-rounded education for Avon students.
The Endowment Fund also supports programs for social awareness at all grade levels with programs such as the “Anti-Bullying Awareness Campaign Project”, “Operation Keepsake”, and the “Memory Project” (that opens hearts and share kindness across international borders). The Endowment Fund also provides funds for special projects that support the needs and independence training of those students with moderate to severe disabilities. This just is a sampling of the dozens of grant request that are approved on a bi-annual basis.
