The UH SJMC/Westlake Community Safety and Wellness Fair will be at the Westlake Recreation Center, 28955 Hilliard Blvd., on May 20 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The focus of the Safety and Wellness Fair is to increase personal safety and wellness, and increase the visibility of health, wellness and safety resources within the community and will include information sharing, demonstrations and wellness screenings.
It is a collaboration between the City of Westlake and UH St John Medical Center. This is a FREE event for both presenters and community members. Since the event is held on Armed Forces Day, we will have a flag raising ceremony before the start of the fair, with a flag flown over the US Capitol Building (with help from Congressman Renacci) and veterans and police as our honor guards.
Outside the Recreation Center a touch a truck event will be held, with emergency vehicles such as bomb truck, ladder truck, aerial bucket, smoke house, swat truck, fire truck, squad and many more. Also outside, the Rec will hold a Fishing Derby and a rock climbing wall adventure will be available. The UH helicopter will also land on the grounds (weather permitting). The Metro parks K-9 unit, Ohio Dog search and rescue, and therapy dogs will be there. ICAC and the collaborative to end human trafficking will come unless called by an emergency.
A DJ will announce the fair to participants, and a bounce house will be available for small children. Chomps the Browns mascot will entertain the children, as well as Safety Dog. There will be a giant inflatable colon to teach digestive health. Two rooms are dedicated to screening, one biometric, and one for cancer screening and education. Inside the gym, there will be presenter information tables and something of interest for all ages.
