On 10/7/18 at approx. 4:38 p.m., WPD received multiple calls reporting a serious Motor Vehicle Accident at Center Ridge and Dover Center Rds.
Officers arrived to find that there was an injury to an 83yo female who had been driving a Prius. She had been struck by a 71yo driving a Chevy Equinox.
The 71yo from Westlake showed signs of impairment and admitted she had been drinking wine while watching the Browns game at a friend’s home. She was field tested and arrested for OVI. The other driver was transported to the hospital with possibly life threatening injuries. Officers offered the arrested driver a Breath test. She stated, “I know I’ll be over,” before she took the test and in fact tested over the legal limit of alcohol in her system.
Crack Smoker to Police: “I Don’t Feel Good….”
On 10/4/18 at approx. 4:50PM WPD received a 911 call from a male indicating that he had been smoking crack and now did not “feel good.” To top it off he had been driving to work in Westlake when he began to feel ill so pulled off the road. Officers located the 33yo from Woodsfield, OH in his running vehicle as described on Bonny Bank Dr at Clague Rd. He admitted to smoking both crack and marijuana at his house before hitting the road. The driver was transported to the hospital and his medical records will be reviewed before the prosecutor rules on official charges. He might feel even worse then….
Watch Your Purse!
On 10/6/18 WPD took a report of a theft from Brio Restaurant at Crocker Park. A customer had their purse slung over the back of a chair when they were eating. She walked out and forgot to grab the purse but returned within 15 minutes. In this time the purse went missing and charges, totaling thousands of dollars, were made on her credit card at the nearby Apple Store. On 10/12/18 WPD received another report for the exact same crime. The complainant had placed her purse over the chair at the restaurant but found later that her wallet containing her credit cards was missing. Again, charges had already been made at the Crocker Park Apple Store. Investigators are following up with the Apple Store and Brio.
Assault Reported at Shopping Center
On 10/7/18 at approx. 4:37PM WPD received a report that a group of men were assaulting another male outside of the Gap store at Crocker Park. The described group of males ran away but were located in a nearby store. The complainant male was also located nearby. After interviewing all involved, officers noted that the stories did not quite match. Evidently the group was being loud in the Apple store when the eventual complainant confronted them about their language. The group took offense and words were exchanged. The reported victim left the situation but was confronted later on by the Gap where again, words were exchanged. The victim reported that a punch was thrown by one of the aggressor group. The suspect(s) denied any violence occurred. A report was taken for prosecutor rule and all were sent on their way.
Street Fight
On 10/10/18 at approx. 12:32PM WPD received multiple reports of a fight between a man and woman on the roadway on Columbia at Sperry. Apparently both parties were from separate cars and left the area as officers were responding. Witnesses reported observing the female striking the male and the male hitting the female back. Officers eventually tracked down both sides of the altercation. Both parties admitted that they had worked together at a nursing home in the past. They both also admitted to throwing punches at the other but disputed who the aggressor was and how the incident started. There were no serious injuries. Statements from the witnesses along with the participants were collected to be reviewed by the prosecutor for possible charges
Library Damage
On 10/6/18 WPD received a report of criminal damaging at Porter Public Library. A vehicle owner parked her 2018 Cadillac in the lot at about 9:15Am and returned to find that someone made 3 large scratches on the vehicle.
