Both the Avon and Avon Lake High football teams lodged decisive first-round playoff victories in OHSAA regional action last weekend and move on to tournament semifinals this Friday.
The road gets narrower for both teams as Avon will face 10-1 Benedictine and Avon Lake takes on 9-2 Wadsworth.
Avon, at 11-0, is one of just 28 teams in Ohio to go undefeated this season.
Avon Lake, now 10-1, has but one blemish – a one-point loss to Avon in the opening week of the season.
Avon defeated Wooster 33-13 last Friday in a regional opener while Avon Lake beat Maple Hts, 33-6.
Here are this weekend’s brackets:
OHSAA Div. II Region 6:
1 Avon (11-0) vs. 4 Cleveland Benedictine (10-1) at Parma Byers Field at Robert M. Boulton Stadium.
2 Avon Lake (10-1) vs. 3 Wadsworth (9-2) at Strongsville Pat Catans Stadium.
Wins by both Avon and Avon Lake will set up a gigantic showdown of these Southwestern Conference powers for a Regional Championship and state semifinals berth the following weekend, Nov. 22.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the pairings for the second round of the football playoffs Sunday. During the first four rounds of the playoffs, all games will kick off at 7:00 PM unless otherwise noted. Division I, II, III and VI games are on Fridays, while Division IV, V and VII games are on Saturdays.
Tickets
All second-round playoff sites will feature presale online ticketing at https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance, as participating schools keep a portion of presale ticket revenue.
