The “Remembering Our Fallen” exhibit features 34 Tribute Towers with military and personal photos of nearly 5,400 veterans who died in the War on Terror. “Remembering Our Fallen” debuted on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., in 2017.
A moving and emotionally powerful tribute to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on 9-11 brought a steady stream of visitors to Avon’s Aquatic Center Park from Sept. 1-5.
“Remembering Our Fallen” is a photographic war memorial that honors our country’s military fallen from The Global War on Terror (9/11/2001 – 8/30/2021). Unlike brick-and-mortar memorials, “Remembering Our Fallen” is designed to travel and includes both military and personal photos. Its legacy is that these men and women will be remembered, and their names will be spoken, while helping to lessen the grief of their families.
The tribute was on display at the Avon Veteran’s Memorial, 36265 Detroit Rd., September 1-5 (all day). Members of the local VFW were on-site each day from 10-4 to answer questions. The memorial was accessible 24hrs a day, and hundreds of visitors came to pay respects throughout the showing. Many took their time as they walked slowly through the displays and photos of young people who lost and gave their lives for our liberties.
‘Veterans” is a word that conjures up images of older folks. But a visit to “Remembering Our Fallen” reveals that most who gave all were truly young folks who gave all they had and all they ever would have for a noble cause.
