The City of Bay Village will observe Trick or Treat on Halloween, Monday, October 31 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm – Participating homeowners are reminded to turn on porch or entry lights during this time! Also, while children love piles of candy, parents aren’t usually as thrilled. Consider handing out non-food items like small toys or coloring books. A Few Safety Reminders For Trick Or Treating
- Remember to only approach homes that have porch or entry lights turned on and stick to familiar houses and neighborhoods.
- Go in groups. Traveling in groups is safer and more fun! Have an adult along to supervise, or if children are old enough to trick-or-treat without an adult, encourage them to go with a group of friends.
- Be visible. Consider bringing glow sticks or flashlights or use reflective tape on costumes, candy bags, strollers and wagons
- Walk, don’t run from house to house, and use sidewalks and crosswalks when possible
- Inspect the treats you receive. Avoid homemade treats and eat only factory-wrapped candy. While food tampering is very rare, go through the goodie pile at the end of the night to remove homemade treats, other questionable sweets or candy your child may be allergic to.
- Drive Safely if you must be on the road. Be extra cautious, drive slowly and watch for excited children who may dash out on the road unexpectedly.
