Bay Dog Kennel to Become a Reality

Congratulations to Bay Village pet advocate and proprietor of Hot Diggity Dog, Nancy Brown, for her success in guiding the community to a new and much needed dog kennel to be located at the Bay Service Department on Naigle Road.

Fresh off the success of her Bark in the Park event (in collaboration with BAYarts) last month, Nancy made a long-awaited announcement at Bay City Council Meeting last week.

“It is with great delight this evening I have the honor to present a check for $50,000 and one brand new Pella Window to the mayor and city council to help execute the refurbishment of the Bay Village Dog Kennel which is located at the service department,” proclaimed Brown.

“This donation,” she said, “is thanks to residents and other generous donors who support the Bay Village Dog Kennel.”

It is also thanks to the power of an idea and the resolve of Nancy, who has tirelessly pursued this dream for years.

“We are pleased that the city will promptly take the project out to bid. It is our hope the weather cooperates to minimize delay in this project.”

Residents Tom Kauker and Manuel Glynias will be monitoring the process with the building and finance departments so updates can be shared with all that have donated and on Facebook page.

Here are a few specifics about the plans to insure safety for employees and guests:

• Inside kennel gates will have the option of dog feeding and watering trays that slide in and out.
• Three security cameras. One inside, two outside that would be activated and monitored by police.
• Smoke and fire alert options are still being investigated.
• Instead of tile floors, it was suggested that a product similar to nature stone with a commercial sealant would be appropriate for longevity and minimize slipping hazards.
• Outside kennel lighting will be dawn to dusk and motion sensor activated.

Also, there is a 20% contingency in the $50K and funds not spent will be appropriated to line 284 of the city budget for the use at the kennel.

Previous meetings with the mayor and staff stated that a designated budget line will be allocated for this donation for the kennel renovation.
