Avon Lake Historical Society (ALHS) and the City of Avon Lake invite the public to celebrate the unveiling and dedication of ALPD #1, the City’s first fire truck, on Saturday, May 23 at 1 p.m. at the Avon Lake Fire Department (ALFD) located at 32811 Walker Road. Speakers will include:
- Mayor Mark Spaetzel
- Assistant Fire Chief Steve Peter
- Dave Dlogosz and Chuck Fye, ALHS restoration team leaders
This event is open to the public. A food truck will be on site and beverages will be made available courtesy of ALPD.
The meticulously restored 1938 Dodge American LaFrance will be introduced to the public during a special dedication ceremony before making its debut in the City’s upcoming Memorial Day Parade. Following the dedication ceremony, residents will have the opportunity to “ring the bell,” take photos, and get a closer look at a piece of Avon Lake history.
“This truck is more than just a vehicle; it’s a symbol of our community’s resilience and commitment to public safety,” said Tony Tomanek, Avon Lake Historical Society President. “I want to thank everyone who had a hand in this project, especially ALHS members Dave Dlogosz and Chuck Fye for leading this effort. Seeing ALPD #1 restored to its 1938 glory is a proud moment for the Historical Society and the entire City of Avon Lake.”
