Avon East Garden Comes Alive for Christmas

The Avon East Courtyard Garden ready for Christmas!

It took a lot of water, sunlight and love to grow the Avon East Elementary School garden last summer.

Now, the holiday spirit has taken over and the garden is alive with the Christmas spirit!

The garden was started last summer when 7-year old student Will Powell and his mom, Neely Powell, approached Principal Erin Holzauer with the idea to create a school garden for all children, including Will, who is a very quiet little boy whose passion is gardening.

The idea became a rallying point for dozens of folks and organizations in the Avon community. Donations of time, talent and garden items have resulted in a space with beautiful plants, a butterfly garden, vegetable garden, herb garden, bird sanctuary and much more.

Now that December is here, the garden is being transformed into a Christmas wonderland. Donations of trees, lights and decor have put the ‘elves’ there to work!

“Heart is full,” posts Neely on the Avon East Garden Facebook site. “Thank you to all who made this project so special! Stay tuned for our winter wonderland open house date!”
