Rocky River City Schools Continue to Rank Among Top Districts in Ohio

The Rocky River City School District (RRCSD) continues to perform among the top school districts in academic achievement in the state of Ohio, according to the results of the 2023 Ohio Department of Education report cards that were released today.

This year’s Performance Index (PI) score of 110.2, a calculation that measures how well students perform on the Ohio State Tests (OSTs), is the highest the district has achieved since the revised OSTs began in 2016 and more than two points higher than last year (108.0).

Additionally, each school improved its PI score from last year and Rocky River High School’s PI score of 110.9 finds it ranked as the top high school in the state for the second consecutive year.

“The Rocky River City School District boasts a rich history of academic excellence and we take great pride in the exceptional achievements of our students and teachers during the 2022-2023 school year,” RRCSD Superintendent Michael Shoaf said. “We extend our gratitude to the parents/guardians and the entire Rocky River community for their continued support, which helps us maintain this academic success.”

RRCSD received an overall 5-star rating, the highest possible, as well as 5-stars for Student Achievement, Progress, Gap Closing and Graduation Rate, and a 4-star rating for Early Literacy. The district’s performance index (PI) score is the third highest in the state this year.

In addition to the state report card results, the district is once again proud to highlight recent academic success in other areas:

  • On Wednesday morning, RRHS lauded 10 students with National Merit recognitions, including three semi-finalists and seven commended scholars.
  • Last month, four RRHS seniors received the National Hispanic Recognition Award and one senior earned the National African American Recognition Award.
  • On the most recent Advanced Placement (AP) Exam results from the spring of 2023, the district matched its highest percentage ever of students earning a score of 3 or higher at 86%.
  • During the 2022-23 school year, 13 students were awarded an AP Capstone Diploma, and four were awarded an AP Seminar and Research Certificate.
  • In late August, RRHS was once again selected by U.S. News & World Report among the nation’s best high schools. RRHS ranks second in the Cleveland area, eighth in Ohio and 288th in the nation, ranking among the top 2-percent of all high schools in the nation.

“The Rocky River City School District has had several outstanding student performances over the last year in academics, arts, activities and athletics,” Shoaf said. “Our commitment is to maintain the best possible learning environment for all students, while providing opportunities to enhance the development of every student.”
