Best of Show Winners at OTEEA State Conference

OTEEA-1The Westlake High School Technology & Engineering (T & E) Department was selected for the state’s best project and exhibit display during the Ohio Technology & Engineering Educators Association (OTEEA) state conference and school exhibits competition held at the TRECA corporate headquarters in Marion last weekend.

Students of the Westlake High School T & E Department garnered several awards in the school exhibits competition, including the title of state champion for their “Best of Show”awards in 3 different technology categories. They also added the rare Zupancic award as well as a “Best of Show” runner-up award. Winning a state champion title for their “Best of Show” award were the following:

The senior team of MARK SARGENT, JACKSON LIANG, SNEHA RAMACHANDRAN, & DAVID EPPELE for their “Urban Reuse House” and energy efficient model home design in the Construction/Architecture Technology category. They also captured the coveted Zupancic Award, selected as the single outstanding project in the entire state of Ohio among all “Best of Show” winners.

The team of DAVID EPPELE (SR.), ROBERT FULOP (SO.), AUSTIN LOOSLI (SO.), & ETHAN SIMON (SO.) for their drone part redesign in the Manufacturing/Rapid Prototyping Technology category.

CONNOR HARTE (SO.) for his Drilling and Tapping Jig rendering in the Computer Generated Technology category.

Winning a runner-up Best of Show award for their drone part redesign in the Manufacturing/Rapid Prototyping Technology category was the team of JACKSON LIANG (SR.), JILLIAN EDDY (JR.), & ERIK HOKE (JR.).

Winning the “Award of Merit” ribbon were the following:

The team of JOEL HOWE (JR.), ALLISON HOOK (FR.), & MOLLY SMITH (FR.) for their Cardboard Chair in the Manufacturing/Materials & Processes Technology category.

The sophomore team of KATIE WILLI, CONNOR HARTE, & CONNOR REIS for their “Urban Reuse House” and energy efficient model home design in the Construction/Architecture Technology category.

The team of MICHAEL REES (JR.), ROBERT FULOP (SO.), & PATRICK GHEEN (SO.) for their “Urban Reuse House” and energy efficient model home design in the Construction/Architecture Technology category.

The team of SNEHA RAMACHANDRAN (SR.), KATIE WILLI (SO.), CONNOR HARTE (SO.), & PATRICK GHEEN (SO.) for their drone part redesign in the Manufacturing/Rapid Prototyping Technology category.

The team of MARK SARGENT (SR.), MICHAEL REES (JR.), & CONNOR REIS (SO.) for their drone part redesign in the Manufacturing/Rapid Prototyping Technology category.

To cap off a successful day, the WHS Technology & Engineering Department received the “Best of Conference” award in the Outstanding Technology Display category.

Students from around the state entered over 340 projects in 9 different Technology categories.
