The SOMM documentaries, directed by Cleveland native Jason Wise, have been a sensation in the wine and film industries. The first film, SOMM, was released in 2012 and follows four Sommeliers on their journey to pass the Master Sommelier exam. The second film, SOMM: Into The Bottle, provides a look at the wine industry, from its historical roots to how it’s made and marketed. SOMM 3, the third film in the series, will be released later in 2018. This film will feature an all-star cast of wine’s most respected figures, including Steven Spurrier, the man responsible for staging the 1976 Judgement of Paris and renowned Master Sommelier Fred Dame. These two along with other wine professionals will taste through some of the rarest wines in the world while discussing various wine-related topics including the aforementioned 1976 Judgement of Paris and how that seminal event transformed the wine industry. The film will also bring back the four stars of the first film.
Bistro 83 Pre-Release Event
Bistro 83 is pleased to be able to host a pre-release event for SOMM 3 where the film will be screened before it is released to the public. The event will be held on Saturday, October 20 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and will cost $150 per person, which includes tax and gratuity. The event timeline is as follows:
- 6 to 7 p.m.: Arrivals on Red Carpet; Food and Wine to be served
- 7 to 8:30 p.m.: Film Screening
- 8:30 to 9 p.m.: Q&A with Wine Professionals, including the Cleveland area’s only Master Sommelier Larry O’Brien as well as Sommelier Jim Fink
- 9 to 9:30 p.m.: Food and Wine to be served
The wines to be served will be themed around the three SOMM films. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be also be served. Dress is Cocktail Attire with a jacket for men strongly recommended (tie is optional). Tickets must be purchased in advance in order to place a reservation. A 100% refund will be provided if notice of cancellation is received by October 6. A 50% refund will be provided if cancellation is received between October 7 and October 13. No refund will be provided after October 13.
